I love portrait photography. I love getting to know my subjects and seeking to create photographs that capture their unique personalities. To me, there are two ways to think about portrait photography. One way is to create posed, choreographed scenes. The other way is to allow the personality of the subject to direct and influence the photographs. I prefer to work with the subjects in collaboration.
I lean more toward art photography as opposed to commercial photography. This means that my work will include artistic elements such as film grain, motion blur, intentionally out-of-focus areas, and candid reactions. My goal is not simply to make my subjects look good but to create photographs that, theoretically, could hang in a gallery and be appreciated by people who don't know the subject.
If you are looking for choreographed, posed portraits, that's great, but you should look elsewhere. However, if you are looking for photographs that seek artistically to capture personality, we could be a good fit.
